What a great show tonight was! With thousands of people packed onto a hillside and a big bonfire going not too far from the stage, this was not a normal show. With other bands like Hyperstatic Union and Grits on the bill, it had a total festival kind of feel. David Nasser and Rick from "The Rick and Bubba Show" were there as speakers. And it was aptly named, too - it was hot.
I think what made tonight's show the most special was the fact that Mac grew up in nearby Clanton, AL. It felt like a big homecoming celebration for Mac. It was cool to hear him share his testimony about how he became a Christian and walked down the aisle at Providence Baptist Church #2. And it seemed like half the crowd was related to Mac in some way or another. We had like five people say things to us like "Tell Mac that J.D. is looking for him". (We had no idea who J.D. was.) But it was definitely a memorable evening for all of us, Mac in particular.
With it being a special night, we tailored a special set list for the evening, which, of course, included "Sweet Home Alabama". We also threw in "Consuming Fire", which we haven't done much this summer, and Scotty was happy that we played "Took My Place". Mac told a story about his daughter's first piano recital. He couldn't quite persuade her to come out and play her song, BUT David Nasser's son Rudy came out and played a song on piano. Look out, Scotty!
Well, we've got a couple of weeks off, and then we play the final show of the summer at Rock the Universe! Then it's on to the fall tour. As we ramp up to the tour, look for the blog to ramp up some as well. So be sure to check back for updates!

I've been following the set lists from recent shows as they post...just checking to see if there will be any major changes for the Orlando show? Wanna be as prepared as possible!
Thanks :)

Ahhhh... would have loved to hear the piano piece. I met Nassar's kids on the ship and they are awesome. :)
Sounds like a wonderful evening. I hope J.D. finally found Mac.

Sounds like it was a very special night, especially if Sweet Home Alabama was played! We'll be praying for a restful two weeks off! Enjoy getting to know your families again (at least for a little while)
