LEADERS ARE READERS

Leaders are Learners and Learners are Readers, so therefore Leaders are Readers! Follow my drift?
I'm always encouraging people to take seriously the claims of Jesus on their life not just as a disciple or a follower but as a leader. Someone once said that Christians should look like sheep from the front but like shepherds from behind. In our desires to follow Jesus we should always be looking to lead others along the same path. Here's a selection of my favourite Leadership books for you:

*The 21 Most Important Minutes in a Leader's Day - John Maxwell
*Leadership Promises for Every Day- John Maxwell
*The Five Dysfunctions of a Team: A Leadership Fable-Patrick Lencioni
*Mentoring: The Promise of Relational Leadership- Walter Wright
*Leadership- Rudolph Giuliani

THE PROCESS CONTINUES..ANOTHER SNEAK PEEK.

Just received the introduction of the book back from the publisher's editor with some minor amendments. It's encouraging to have someone sharpening the material but also a relief when the amendments are 'minor'! So over the next few weeks, as well as writing a masters degree research paper, I'll be doing some editing and refining of the book.
Here's an extract from the intro:
Whenever people find out that I travel with Third Day as their road pastor, they always ask me the same two questions. The second question is “Do you need someone to carry your bags?” I laugh politely and mention that I’m strong enough to carry my own bags. However, the first question needs a more serious answer. Everyone always asks me “How did you get the job of Third Day’s road pastor?” Depending on how much time I’ve have and how interested the person looks, I’ve got two possible replies. My short reply is that it is a “God thing” and the longer reply, which explains the set of circumstances in which I’ve ended up working with the band, adds up to basically the same answer—it’s a God thing.
If you think about the situation, it does seem to stretch the bounds of credibility that a man from Cardiff, Wales, in the UK would find himself in the privileged and responsible position of being spiritual advisor and friend to one of the most successful and influential bands in the history of Christian music. Equally unlikely that their production manager would uproot from his home in Australia to join the band’s crew, or that their merchandise manager is a missionary from Brazil. Yet that’s the way God often works: “For just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts higher than your thoughts” (Isaiah 55:9 NLT).

GOMER MISSION TRIP?

There's quite a few Gomers who are expressing a desire to come with me on a mission trip to India to see all the projects that Third Day have been supporting. We're in the very early stages of thinking at the moment, but it's definitely something we want to do! I still have a couple of spaces on a trip in October of this year if anyone is interested, we'll attend the opening of at least one of the churches paid for by Third Day's UK tour- visit Ignite website and click on the India flag for details of the trip and contact me if you are interested. I'm also taking a team from IPFW college in Fort Wayne to India next June, so a likely Gomer trip would be Fall 2008.
